Pantoloc

Pronounced:Pant-a-lock 
Generic name: Pantoprazole sodium 

Pantoloc, or Protonix as it is refered to in the United States, blocks the production of stomach acid. Pantoloc is prescribed to heal a condition called erosive esophagitis (a severe inflammation of the passage to the stomach) brought on by a persistent backflow of stomach acid (gastroesophageal reflux disease). Later, it may be prescribed to maintain healing and prevent a relapse. 

Pantoloc is a member of the "proton pump inhibitor" class of acid blockers, which includes AcipHex, Nexium, Prilosec, and Prevacid.

ADULTS
The usual dose is 40 milligrams once a day for up to 8 weeks. If your esophagus hasn't healed in that time, your doctor may prescribe an additional 8-week course of therapy. The same dose is used to maintain healing.
