Full Page Announcement Concerning Glaxo
Fight Back to Stop Glaxo Now:
1 Contact the U.S. Congress switchboard in Washington, DC at 1-202-224-3121, ask for the names and phone numbers of your House and Senate members, and call them to share your concerns. Or, visit www.congress.org to learn your legislators' e-mail
addresses and send them a note.
2 Call Glaxo's toll-free consumer hotline at 1-888-825-5249, press 3, then press 2, and give your views to the live operator.
3 Write Glaxo's U.S. CEO and tell him to stop the restrictions being placed on Canadian drugs:
Mr. Jean-Pierre Garnier, CEO, GSK U.S. Pharmaceuticals, Five Moore Drive, P.O. Box 13398, Research Triangle Park, NC. 27709
4 If you have been buying your Glaxo drugs from a Canadian pharmacy and cannot afford the high U.S. pharmacy prices, check with your doctor to see if there is a comparable drug made by another drugmaker that you can switch to.
5 Consider selling any Glaxo stock that you currently hold either directly or through a pension fund. Glaxo stock is listed as "GSK" on the New York Stock Exchange.
6 You may want to consider switching from these Glaxo over-the-counter treatments to those made by other manufacturers. The company's products include the following brands: Beano, Citrucel, Contac, Geritol, Sominex, Sensodyne, Polident, Poligrip, Nytol, Nicoderm, Nicorette, Tegrin, Tums and Vivarin.
This message is brought to you by these American and Canadian organizations who work to keep affordable alternative-sourced drugs available as a safe, reliable and low-cost option for all Americans.

Pulling Strings from Afar
Drug Industry Finances Nonprofit Groups That Claim to Speak for Older Americans

By Bill Hogan
February 2003
United Seniors Association, based in Fairfax, Va., calls itself an "influential and effective" advocacy organization for older Americans.

The Seniors Coalition, based in Springfield, Va., describes itself as an "advocacy organization that represents the interests and concerns of America's senior citizens."

The 60 Plus Association, based in Arlington, Va., describes itself as "an advocacy group with a free enterprise, less government, less taxes approach to seniors issues."
As recently as 2001, none of the organizations listed any revenue from membership dues on their tax returns. If you're like millions of other older Americans, you've seen their names many times before—either on fundraising appeals or on television spots promoting political candidates. (One of the groups spent more than $10 million last year on politician-promoting ads featuring Art Linkletter, the folksy television personality.) More than ever before, they've been trying to influence political campaigns and shape policies that affect older Americans.
But who's really behind these organizations? And are they really working to help older Americans?

Sanders Introduces Legislation To Protect Americans’ Access to Canadian Medicines
Bill Is A Response To GlaxoSmithKline’s Latest Actions

For Immediate Release, 2/18/2003

Washington, DC - Rep. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) announced today that he has introduced a bill to prevent pharmaceutical companies from cutting off Canadian pharmacies who supply American patients. The legislation, called the Preserving Access to Safe, Affordable Canadian Medicines Act of 2003 (HR847), would subject drug companies with civil money penalties of up to $1 million if they tried to discriminate against U.S. consumers who are accessing cheaper prescription drugs from Canada. The bi-partisan legislation, which has 33 original co-sponsors, is in direct response to GlaxoSmithKline’s recent move to cut off Canadian pharmacies and wholesalers who sell its products to U.S. consumers.
