Drug InformationThis medicine is used to treat glaucoma; prevention of mountain sickness; edema (swelling) caused by congestive heart failure and also for certain types of seizures. Your doctor may prescribe this medicine for other conditions as well.
Mechanism:
This medicine blocks an enzyme, which reduces the amount of aqueous humor in the eye, thus lowering pressure the eye. It also possesses a diuretic (water reducing) effect and retards nerve conduction in the brain.

Side Effectsdrowsiness or weakness
Precautions:
Do NOT take this medicine if you are allergic to sulfonamides or sulfonylureas. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you think you may be allergic to these drugs.
Preganant:
It is not known whether this medicine can cause harm if taken during pregnancy. Pregnant mothers should talk to their doctors about the benefits versus the risks to the mother and baby. It is unknown whether this medicine is excreted in the breast milk. Do not breast feed while taking this medicine until you have discussed any possible risks with your doctor.

Dosage InformationTake this medicine as directed by your doctor. This medicine is taken orally with food. Do not crush sustained-released capsules; open and sprinkle on food.
Missed Dosage:
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
