Drug InformationThis medicine is used to treat a stuffy nose, sneezing, and runny nose by caused a cold or hay fever.
Mechanism:
The antihistamine relieves symptoms by blocking a chemical called histamine. Histamine can cause runny nose, sneezing, and watery eyes. Decongestants constrict or narrow blood vessels which allows less fluid to the nasal passages. This may lead to an increase in blood pressure in some patients.

Side EffectsSerious side effects rarely occur with antihistamines and decongestants if taken as directed.
Precautions:
The antihistamine in this medicine will add to the effects of alcohol and other central nervous system depressants. This can increase drowsiness and dizziness. Examples of depressants can include: sedatives, sleeping medicine, medications for pain
Preganant:
Talk to your doctor about using this medicine during pregnancy or nursing to discuss any possible risks to you or your baby. The occasional use of these products are not likely to cause problems in the fetus. However, if used for a long time or with higher doses, the chance that problems may occur can increase. For breast-feeding mothers, small amounts of this medicine pass into the breast milk. It is not recommended to take these medications while you are breast-feeding due to the possible side effects to the baby.

Dosage InformationFor proper use of this medicine, follow the directions on the package, unless otherwise instructed by your doctor. Do not take more of this medication than recommended on the label. You can take this medicine with food or milk to avoid an upset stomach. For the extended-release tablets or capsules, swallow whole. Do not crush, chew, or break before swallowing. If the tablet is too big to swallow, you can mix the contents of the capsule with applesauce, yogurt or honey and swallow without chewing.
Missed Dosage:
If your doctor has instructed you to take this medicine regularly and you miss a dose, take your next dose, as soon as you remember. If you are close to your next dose, do not double up. Skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. Symptoms of overdose include the following: Clumsiness, convulsions, severe dryness of mouth, nose or throat, hallucinations, fast or irregular heart rate, or trouble breathing.
