Drug InformationThis medication is used for the prevention of gout. This medicine may be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Mechanism:
This medicine blocks an enzyme which is responsible for the formation of uric acid that is the cause of gout.

Side EffectsThe most common side effect with this medicine is a skin rash. Drug should be discontinued at first sign of a rash.
Precautions:
Alcoholic beverages can decrease the effectiveness of this medicine.
Preganant:
For women, this medication should not be used in pregnancy or while nursing.

Dosage InformationTake this medicine as directed. This medicine is taken by mouth and best taken after meals. You should drink plenty of fluids (10 to 12 glasses of fluids) while taking this medicine.
Missed Dosage:
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
