Drug InformationAloe vera topical has been used to assist in the healing of minor wounds, burns, eczema, and psoriasis. Aloe vera topical may also have uses other than those listed in this monograph. Aloe has also been used orally for constipation.
Mechanism:
It is not quite clear which ingredients of aloe are active in would healing. Studies suggest that aloe has anti-inflammatory properties, antimicrobial (kills germs) and helps to stimulate the immune system. Aloe also contains vitamin E, vitamin C, zinc and essential fatty acids, which may help to promote healing.

Side EffectsSerious side effects have not been reported with the use of aloe vera topical. Skin burning, redness, and rash have been reported infrequently.
