Drug InformationThis medicine is used to treat symptoms of Parkinson's disease or to treat the flu. Your doctor may prescribe this medicine to treat other conditions as well.
Mechanism:
The exact way that this medicine works is unknown, but it is thought to release a brain chemical called dopamine. This dopamine release helps in Parkinson's disease.

Side EffectsPossible side effects with the use of this medicine may include: nausea, dizziness or lightheadedness, trouble sleeping, dry mouth, headache, blurred vision
Precautions:
Alcohol can add to the side effects of this medicine.
Preganant:
This medicine has been reported to cause birth defects in animals. This medicine should NOT be used in pregnancy unless the benefits to the mother outweigh the risks to the unborn fetus. Talk to your doctor about using this medicine during pregnancy. Amantadine is excreted in the breast milk and should NOT be used by nursing mothers.

Dosage InformationFollow the directions provided by your doctor. This medicine is taken orally and can be prescribed in different ways. Before stopping this medication, talk to your doctor.
Missed Dosage:
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
