Drug InformationAmpicillin is a penicillin drug used to treat bacterial infections.
Mechanism:
The group of penicillin antibiotics work by blocking bacterial cell wall formation, resulting in bacteria that cannot survive or reproduce.

Antibiotics may decrease the amount of good bacteria in your intestines needed for normal digestion. A supplement called Probiotic may be recommended. Talk to your pharmacist for more information.

Side EffectsSome common side effects reported with this medicine include: rash, nausea, diarrhea
Precautions:
Do NOT take this medicine if you are allergic to penicillin or cephalosporins (such as Keflex, Ceclor or Ceftin).
Preganant:
If you suspect that you may be pregnant, talk to your doctor. For nursing mothers, this medicine is excreted in the breast milk and may cause your baby to develop diarrhea, yeast infections, or an allergic reaction. Use caution and talk to your pediatrician.

Dosage InformationTake this medicine as directed by your doctor. Shake liquids well before each dose. Your pharmacist can help you dose the medicine correctly if you are unsure. This medicine is taken orally and can be taken with or without food. Complete the full course of this antibiotic unless instructed otherwise.
Missed Dosage:
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.
Storage:
Store this medicine in the refrigerator. Do not freeze. Discard unused portion after 10 days. Tablets can be stored at room temperature. Avoid heat and moisture. Avoid storing in the bathroom.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
