Drug InformationThis medicine is used for the prevention and treatment of scurvy.
Mechanism:
The exact biological functions of vitamin C are not know. Humans are one of the few species who cannot make vitamin C, and must depend on our diet or supplements for the source. Vitamin C is known to play a role in the making of collagen; components of skin, bone, blood vessels and connective tissues between cells. Vitamin C is known to boost immunity, may help the body handle stress, and may decrease the risk of heart disease by dissolving plaques and decreasing LDL cholesterol. Vitamin C plays a major role in many chemical reactions in the body including the storage of iron and the activation of folic acid.
