Drug InformationAspirin is used for the treatment of mild to moderate pain. Your doctor may use aspirin for other conditions as well such as after a heart attack or stroke to prevent clotting. Larger doses of aspirin are used to treat gout.
Mechanism:
Aspirin reduces inflammation and pain by blocking the effects of a substance in your body called prostaglandins.

Side EffectsAlthough side effects from aspirin are not common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away: upset stomach, vomiting, stomach pain
Precautions:
Do NOT take this medicine if you are allergic to aspirin, ibuprofen or naproxen.
Preganant:
Talk to your doctor about using this medicine during pregnancy or nursing to discuss any possible risks to you or your baby. Aspirin should NOT be used during the third trimester of pregnancy.

Dosage InformationFor proper use of this medicine, follow the directions on the package, unless otherwise instructed by your doctor. Aspirin should be taken orally with a full glass of water with meals or after meals to prevent stomach upset. Do not break, crush, or chew extended-release tablets or capsules, swallow them whole. Chewable aspirin tablets may be chewed, crushed or dissolved in a liquid. Drink a full glass of water, milk or juice after taking these tablets.
Missed Dosage:
If your doctor has instructed you to take this medicine regularly and you miss a dose, take your next dose, as soon as you remember. If you are close to your next dose, do not double up. Skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
