Drug InformationThis medicine is an immunosuppressive drug used to prevent rejection after a kidney transplant. Your doctor may prescribe this medicine for other conditions as well, such as rheumatoid arthritis.
Mechanism:
Azathioprine interferes with the formation of DNA, RNA and proteins. The drug may also interfere with cellular metabolism.

Side EffectsPossible side effects with the use of this medicine may include: nausea, upset stomach

Avoid dangerous activities that may expose your to serious injuries.
Preganant:
This medicine has been shown to cause HARM to the fetus. If you are planning to become pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits versus the risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. For nursing mother, this medicine IS EXCRETED in the breast milk. DO NOT BREAST-FEED while taking this medicine.

Dosage InformationFollow the directions that your doctor or pharmacist have given you. This medicine is taken orally and may be taken WITH FOOD if it causes you stomach upset.
Missed Dosage:
If you are taking this medicine more than once daily, take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, take both doses together then go back to your regular schedule.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
