Drug Information

Bioflavonoids are found in the rind of green citrus fruits and in rose hips and black currants. Bioflavonoids have been used historically in a variety of disease states including Rheumatic fever, habitual abortion, poliomyelitis, prevention of bleeding, rheumatoid arthritis, periodontal disease, diabetic retinitis, and others. Bioflavonoids may be used for other purposes other than those listed in this monograph.
Mechanism:
While bioflavonoids are not considered essential, they are believed to support health as anti-inflammatory, antihistaminic, and antiviral agents. These agents protect against some of the symptoms of diabetes, protect blood vessels, are natural blood thinners, and may protect against oxidative damage to LDL cholesterol and protect the eyes against cataracts.

Side Effects

Seek medical attention immediately if you experience an allergic reaction to bioflavonoids: swelling of the lips/tongue or face, difficulty breathing, hives
Precautions:
Before taking bioflavonoids, talk to your doctor, pharmacist, or health care professional if you have any other medical conditions, allergies, or if you take other medicines or other herbal / health supplements.
Preganant:
Do not take bioflavonoids if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy. It is not known whether bioflavonoids will harm an unborn baby. Do not take bioflavonoids while breastfeeding. It is not known whether bioflavonoids will harm a nursing infant.

Dosage Information

Take bioflavonoids exactly as directed by your doctor or as directed on the package. If you do not understand these directions, ask your pharmacist, nurse, or doctor to explain them to you. Tablets or capsules should be swallowed with a full glass of water.
