Drug InformationThis drug , also known as pantothenic acid, or Vitamin B5, is used to treat Vitamin B5 deficiencies, acne, allergies, asthma, cardiac failure, hypoglycemia, diabetic neuropathy, and neuralgia. It may also be used to manage hypercholesterolemia and rheumatoid arthritis. This vitamin is widely available in foods.
Mechanism:
This drug plays a role in the production of hormones, neurotransmitters and the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Calcium pantothenate may boost energy by its role in carbohydrate metabolism. Pantothenic acid is converted to Coenzyme A, essential for acetylcholine synthesis

Side EffectsOrally, large doses may cause diarrhea.
Precautions:
Pantothenic acid is commonly combined with other B vitamins and folic acid.
Preganant:
Talk to your doctor about using this medicine during pregnancy or while nursing It is considered likely safe when used in the recommended ranges of 6 or 7 mg daily.

Dosage InformationFor proper use of this medicine, follow the directions on the package, unless otherwise instructed by your doctor. Extended-release products must be swallowed whole, do not crush or chew.
Missed Dosage:
If your doctor has instructed you to take this medicine regularly and you miss a dose, take your next dose, as soon as you remember. If you are close to your next dose, do not double up. Skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.

Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
