Drug InformationCalcium and Vitamin D is used to supplement the diet for people who have deficiencies. Your doctor may use this medicine for other conditions, such as hypocalcemia, osteoporosis, rickets, PMS, and leg cramps associated with pregnancy.
Mechanism:
Calcium and Vitamin D help the body to prevent bone loss. Vitamin D increases the absorption of both calcium and phosphorus. Calcium is essential for nerve transmission, muscle contraction, vascular contraction and vasodilatation, respiration and renal function, among others.

Side EffectsThere are no common side effects with the proper use of this medicine. Too much Vitamin D over long periods may cause: headache, weight loss, kidney stones.
Precautions:
Do NOT take more that the recommended dose of this medicine.
Preganant:
Talk to your doctor about using this medicine during pregnancy or nursing to discuss any possible risks to you or your baby.

Dosage InformationFor proper use of this medicine, follow the directions on the package, unless otherwise instructed by your doctor. It is usually not recommended to take more 400 IU daily of Vitamin D, and around 1 gram of elemental calcium daily.
Missed Dosage:
If your doctor has instructed you to take this medicine regularly and you miss a dose, take your next dose, as soon as you remember. If you are close to your next dose, do not double up. Skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
