Drug InformationChromium has been used for diabetes, high cholesterol and low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) backed by scientific research. There may be some benefit for high triglycerides and Insulin resistance syndrome. Chromium has also been used for weight loss, to increase athletic performance and depression. Although more research is needed in these areas.
Mechanism:
Chromium is an essential trace mineral that assists the body in maintaining normal blood sugar levels. Chromium may also play a role in increasing HDL ("good") cholesterol, while lowering total cholesterol.

Side EffectsIn doses of 50-300 mcg per day, chromium toxicity has not been found in humans.
Precautions:
Taking this medicine with other drugs for diabetes may lead to low blood sugar.
Preganant:
Considered likely safe when taken orally at daily doses not exceeding 30mg daily during pregnancy, 45 mcg daily while breast-feeding.
