Drug InformationClemastine, an antihistamine, is used to treat or prevent allergy symptoms and colds. Your doctor may use this medicine for other conditions as well.
Mechanism:
Antihistamines block histamine in the body. Histamine is released from mast cells when encountered by allergens such as dust, ragweed or pollen. These allergens cause swelling, runny nose, sneezing and itchy watery eyes.

Precautions:
Antihistamines can cause dizziness or drowsiness, so caution is advised.

Dosage InformationFor proper use of this medicine, follow the directions on the package, unless otherwise instructed by your doctor. Extended-release tablets should be swallowed whole. Do not crush or chew. For children under 12, I recommend that you talk to your doctor before taking this medicine.
Missed Dosage:
If your doctor has instructed you to take this medicine regularly and you miss a dose, take your next dose, as soon as you remember. If you are close to your next dose, do not double up. Skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
