Drug InformationIt is most commonly used as hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in post-menopausal women. This medicine is used for relief of symptoms such as hot flashes. It is also used for decreasing the risk of brittle bones (osteoporosis), and treatment of vaginal atrophy. Doctors may also prescribe this medicine to treat certain cancers in both men and women.
Mechanism:
The estrogenic hormones are required by the body for developing and maintaining the female reproductive system and secondary sex characteristics. They promote growth and development of the vagina, uterus, fallopian tubes, and breasts. In treating osteoporosis, estrogen reduces bone resorption and slows down bone loss.

Dosage InformationTo be effective, this medicine must be taken daily and continuously. This medicine should be taken with food or milk to minimize stomach upset.
Missed Dosage:
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center.
