Drug Information

Patients that are likely to need nutrition formulas are those that have: AIDS, burns, cancer, infections, kidney problems, liver problems, lung problems, pancreas problems, digestive tract disorders, surgical patients, or patients with prolonged vomiting.
Mechanism:
Enteral nutrition formulas provide the body with the nutrients it needs when proper nutrition cannot be acquired from a normal diet.

Side Effects

The most commonly reported side effects with nutrition formulas are: constipation, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting.
Precautions:
Enteral feedings should be used no more than 12 hours at room temperature and then discarded.
Preganant:
Before using enteral nutrition formulas, talk to your doctor or health care provider. Studies on the effects on humans have not been done. For breast-feeding mothers; there have been no reports of problems with nutritional formulas and nursing infants.

Dosage Information

Follow your doctors instructions for nutrition formulas. Although these formulas do no require your doctor to write a prescription, these formulas should generally be used under the supervision of medical personnel. Liquid forms should be shaken well before using. Refrigerate after opening. Most formulas can be stored in the refrigerator for 1 or 2 days. See product labels for details. If your formula comes in powder form, follow package instructions for proper use.

Storage:
