Drug InformationThis medicine is used to treat certain types of bone problems following hip replacement surgery, or to treat Paget's disease of the bone.
Mechanism:
This medicine increases bone-building and decreases fracture risk. The medicine helps bone-building cells while preventing bone resorbing, or the breakdown of bone.

Side EffectsThis medicine may cause side effect. Talk to your doctor if these side effects become bothersome or won't go away: gas, reflux, heartburn, rash, headache
Precautions:
This medicine should be used with caution by patients with kidney disease, those on hormone replacement therapy, and those with throat or gastric emptying problems.
Preganant:
For women, it is intended for use after menopause, however, if it is used during pregnancy it should only occur if the potential benefits outweigh the possible risk to the fetus. As with all medication during pregnancy and nursing, talk with your physician or pharmacist before taking any.

Dosage InformationTake etidronate at least 2 hours before or after eating meals or ingesting milk or dairy products, vitamins, or iron and magnesium supplements.
Missed Dosage:
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
