Drug InformationThis medicine is used for maintenance and prevention of chronic asthma, either alone or in conjunction with other medications. It may be used by patients on oral steroids requiring dose reduction. Topically this medicine is used to reduce rash or used in other skin conditions.
Mechanism:
Inhaled fluticasone is believed to work as a potent anti-inflammatory, blocking bronchoconstriction and relaxing smooth muscles of the bronchioles (the tubes carrying air into the lungs).

Side Effectsheadache
Precautions:
If bronchospasms and wheezing occur after dosing, the patient should use a fast-acting bronchodilator and discontinue the fluticasone until seen by a physician.
Preganant:
This drug should be used with caution during pregnancy, and only when the benefit clearly outweighs the potential risk. It is unknown whether inhaled fluticasone is excreted in breast milk, so caution should be used in deciding whether to discontinue the drug or the breast-feeding.

Dosage InformationFluticasone is available as an orally inhaled aerosol or a powder for oral inhalation. These are generally used for long-term twice daily maintenance treatment and are not recommended for use by patients to treat an acute attack. Always have a short-acting bronchodilator for acute attacks. Longer-acting bronchodilators may also be used with inhaled fluticasone therapy, according to needs of the patient.
Missed Dosage:
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.

Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
