Drug InformationFor patients who are low in folic acid in the blood. Numerous conditions include megaloblastic anemia, ulcerative colitis, liver disease, alcoholism, prevention of neural tube defects in pregnancy, memory deficit, osteoporosis, peripheral neuropathy, and others.

Side EffectsLess than 1% of patients may experience slight flushing, rash or tiredness. High doses may cause nausea, abdominal distress, changes in sleep patterns, confusion, impaired judgment, and bitter taste in the mouth.
Precautions:
Do NOT take more that the recommended dose of this medicine. Also, folic acid may bring on seizures in those with seizure disorders and psychotic behavior in schizophrenics.
Preganant:
When using the recommended dosage, this medicine is generally safe to take during pregnancy, however you should always talk to you doctor before making any changes in your drug regimen. If you plan to breast feed, talk to your doctor about using this medicine.

Dosage InformationTake this medicine as directed by your doctor. This medicine is taken orally and may be taken with or without food. Usual dosages are in the range of 250 to 1000 mcg daily.
Missed Dosage:
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
