Drug Information

This medicine is used for water retention (edema), high blood pressure, fluid in the lungs (pulmonary edema), heart failure and/or kidney failure. Your doctor may prescribe this medicine for other reasons.
Mechanism:
Loop diuretics work by increasing the elimination of salt and water through increased urine production. This reduces the amount of fluid in the body.

Side Effects

nausea, vomiting
Precautions:
This medicine may cause your skin to be sensitive to sunlight. Avoid long exposure to the sun and use a sunscreen and protective clothing.
Preganant:
If you plan on becoming pregnant, talk to your doctor before taking this medicine to weigh the benefits vs. the risks to your pregnancy. This medicine is excreted in breast milk. If you plan to breast feed while taking this medicine, talk to your doctor first.

Dosage Information

This medicine should be taken with food or milk to avoid stomach upset. This medicine will increase urination and should be taken early in the day.
Missed Dosage:
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
