Drug InformationThis medicine is an anticonvulsant used to treat seizures. Your doctor may prescribe this medicine for other conditions as well, such as chronic pain or diabetic neuropathy (nerve damage).
Mechanism:
Gabapentin appears to increase a chemical (GABA) in the brain that slows down or inhibits nerve impulses.

Do NOT stop taking this medicine without consulting with your doctor.
Preganant:
If you plan on becoming pregnant, talk to your doctor about the risks versus the benefits of using this medicine during pregnancy. This medicine is excreted in breast milk. If you want to breast feed, talk to your doctor first.

Dosage InformationFollow the directions given to you by your doctor or pharmacist. This medicine can be taken with food or on an empty stomach. It is very important to take this medicine regularly the same time each day. Do not take this medicine within 2 hours of taking aluminum or magnesium antacids.
Missed Dosage:
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
