Drug InformationIt has many uses, including improving athletic performance, HIV support, gastritis, peptic ulcer, ulcerative colitis, and alcohol withdrawal support. It may also be used for depression, moodiness, anxiety, insomnia and for Crohn's Disease.
Mechanism:
It is a protein building block. It can be converted to glucose when required as an energy source. It provides fuel for cells lining the intestines, and is used by white blood cells in supporting immune function. It also has anti-inflammatory effects. Glutamine also can promote the storage of carbohydrates after extreme exercise.

Side EffectsSide effects are rare. There is the possibility of neurological effects in patients with neurological or psychiatric diseases, Mania has been reported in bipolar patients on glutamine supplements.
Precautions:
This product should be used with caution in patients with hepatic encephalopathy, with manic disease, or with seizure disorders.
Preganant:
