Drug Information

This medicine is used to treat high blood pressure, either alone or taken together with other medications.
Mechanism:
The lisinopril is called an ACE inhibitor, reducing blood pressure by preventing a chemical reaction that creates a potent vasoconstrictor. The HCTZ (hydrochlorothiazide) is a diuretic (water pill), to reduce fluid retention. The net result is a relaxation of arteries, lowering of blood pressure, and increase in heart output, with little change in heart rate.
More Info:
For more information about this medicine, talk to your healthcare provider.

Precautions:
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor in you have kidney or liver disease.
Preganant:
There have not been well-controlled studies of Zestoretic in pregnancy. Use only if clearly needed and the benefit outweighs any potential risk. Some ACE inhibitors have been shown to be excreted in breast milk in small quantities, and thiazide diuretics have been detected in breast milk, so caution should be used in deciding whether to discontinue the drug or the breast-feeding.
