Drug Information

This medicine is used for treatment of type 2 diabetes.
Mechanism:
It decreases sugar (glucose) production in the liver. It also increases the body’s sensitivity to insulin.

Side Effects

The most common side effects with this medicine include stomach upset and diarrhea.
Precautions:
Precautions with this medicine include the possibility of a very rare condition called lactic acidosis.
Preganant:
The manufacturer does not recommend that this medicine be used during pregnancy. For nursing mother, this drug is excreted in breast milk. It is not advised to breast feed while taking this medicine.

Dosage Information

Anti-diabetic medications should be taken on a regular schedule, morning and evening, if it has been prescribed on a twice daily basis. Can be taken with food if stomach upset occurs Treatment should include careful monitoring of daily blood glucose levels. Avoid or limit use of alcohol.
Missed Dosage:
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center.
