Drug InformationIt is used primarily for those who have high blood pressure, and may also be used to treat angina pectoris (chest pains) and for treatment after a heart attack.
Mechanism:
This medicine blocks the action of a chemical that can cause constriction of blood vessels and stimulation of heart muscle.

Side EffectsSide effects that this medicine may cause include: mild drowsiness, lightheadedness, dizziness, unusual tiredness or weakness
Precautions:
If you have a heart problems such as angina, DO NOT stop this medicine suddenly until you have talked with your doctor. This medicine should be tapered down gradually according to your doctor's instructions.
Preganant:
Safety during pregnancy has not been established, and this drug should only be used when benefits clearly outweigh the risks. Metoprolol is known to be excreted in breast milk in small quantities, so should be used only with caution and clear knowledge of the physician.

Dosage InformationThis medicine is taken orally, normally once or twice daily. It may be taken with food or on an empty stomach. Take the medicine regularly.
Missed Dosage:
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. Symptoms of overdose include nausea, vomiting, slowed heart rate, difficulty breathing, bluish discoloration of skin, severe chest pain, loss of consciousness.
