Drug InformationThis medicine is used to treat gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, and for acid reflux, in which stomach acid is washed back up into the esophagus.
Mechanism:
Omeprazole blocks the production of acid in your stomach.

Preganant:
There have not been well-controlled studies of omeprazole in pregnancy. Use only if clearly needed and the benefit outweighs any potential risk. Omeprazole has been shown to be excreted in breast milk, so caution should be used in deciding whether to discontinue the drug or the breast-feeding.

Dosage InformationOmeprazole is available in delayed-release capsules and they should be swallowed whole, not opened, crushed, or chewed. Preferred dosing time is immediately before a meal, usually in the morning.
Missed Dosage:
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
