Drug InformationThis medicine is used to treat overactive bladder and the symptoms associated with it. Symptoms include; the inability to control urination (incontinence), urgency (feeling that one needs to urinate) and going to the bathroom frequently.
Mechanism:
Oxybutynin relaxes bladder smooth muscle. Studies have demonstrated that oxybutynin increases bladder capacity, slows down the frequency of contractions and delays the urgency and the frequency to urinate.

Side EffectsThe most common side effects with this medicine are skin reactions where the patch is put on. These include itching and redness. Other side effects include: dry mouth, constipation, abnormal vision, headache
Precautions:
Do NOT use this medicine if you have the following medical conditions: Urinary retention (your bladder does not empty completely when you urinate), Gastric retention (your stomach empties slowly or incompletely after a meal), uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma, Allergy to oxybutynin, Liver disease, Kidney disease, Bladder obstruction, Gastrointestinal obstruction, Ulcerative colitis, Myasthenia gravis, Gastric reflux or esophagitis
Preganant:
Tell your doctor in you are pregnant or breastfeeding. This medicine may not be right for you.

Dosage InformationTake this medicine as directed by your doctor. Oxybutynin is generally taken 2 to 3 times daily. This medicine is usually taken on an empty stomach, 2 hours after eating or 1 hour before a meal.
Missed Dosage:
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
