Drug InformationThis medicine used to prevent nausea and vomiting that happens right away with certain anti-cancer medicines (chemotheraphy) and later after taking anti-cancer medicines. This medicine is not used to treat the nausea and vomiting you may already have.
Mechanism:
It is thought that chemotherapeutic agents produce nausea and vomiting by releasing serotonin from special cellls in the small intestine and that the released serotonin then activates 5-HT3 receptors that cause vomiting. Palonsetron blocks those receptors that cause vomiting.

Side EffectsSome common side effects reported with this medicine include: headache, comstipation, diarrhea, dizziness, tiredness, stomach area pain, trouble sleeping
Precautions:
If you are allergic to other medicines such as ondansetron (Zofran), dolasetrom (Anzemet), or granisetron (Kytril) , you are more likely to have an allergic reaction with this medicine.
Preganant:
Talk to your health care provider before taking this medicine if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant or if you are breast-feeding.

Dosage InformationThis medicine is administered intraveneously. This medicine is given as a single dose approximately 30 minutes before the start of chemotherapy. Follow any instructions given to you by your doctor or nurse.
Missed Dosage:
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
