Drug InformationThis medicine is used for those who have high cholesterol. When taken together with a low-fat diet, this medicine can lower LDL cholesterol, commonly referred to as the âbadâ cholesterol, triglycerides, and total cholesterol, while increasing the HDL, or âgoodâ cholesterol.
Mechanism:
The statins work by blocking an enzyme in the liver that is used by your body to make cholesterol. The result is lower levels of cholesterol and reduced risk of hardening of the arteries.

Side EffectsThis medicine is generally well-tolerated and side effects are usually mild.
Precautions:
Notify your doctor if you experience unexplained muscle pain, tenderness or weakness.
Preganant:
This medicine should not be used during pregnancy. If you suspect that you may be pregnant, talk to your doctor. For nursing mothers, it is unknown whether this medicine is excreted in the breast milk. It is advised not to breast-feed while taking this medication.

Dosage InformationThis medicine can be taken with or without food, about the same time every day. Do not take this medicine with grapefruit juice.
Missed Dosage:
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
