Drug InformationVitamin B6 is used to treat a deficiency caused by inadequate diet, loss caused by certain drugs, or deficiencies caused by other reasons. Signs of not getting enough vitamin B6 can include; nausea, vomiting, depression, sleep problems, anemia, decreased alertness, PMS, dermatitis and feeling tired.
Mechanism:
Pyridoxine works in the metabolism (breakdown) of carbohydrates, fats, and protein. It acts as a coenzyme in the conversion of tryptophan to niacin or serotonin. It also plays a role in the utilization of glucose. The need for pyridoxine increases with higher protein in the diet.

Side EffectsSide effects that may be experienced are: nausea, headache, numbness, allergic reactions
Precautions:
Do NOT take more than the recommended dose of this medicine.
Preganant:
Pyridoxine is safe in pregnancy and requirements are increased. Concentration in breast milk varies depending on the mothers intake. Pyridoxine may slow the amount of breast milk that is produced.

Dosage InformationFor proper use of this medicine, follow the directions on the package, unless otherwise instructed by your doctor.
Missed Dosage:
If your doctor has instructed you to take this medicine regularly and you miss a dose, take your next dose, as soon as you remember. If you are close to your next dose, do not double up. Skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center.
