Drug InformationThis medicine is used for high blood pressure; the drug is also used for treatment of heart failure after a heart attack. This medicine may be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Mechanism:
This medicine works by blocking a chemical reaction that constricts blood vessels. The result is a relaxing or widening of vessels and decreased blood pressure.
More Info:
This medicine can cause a decrease in zinc in the body. Symptoms of low zinc might include decreased immunity (easier to get sick), acne, anorexia, depression, and joint pain. If you experience any of these symptoms, see your doctor.

Side EffectsSome common side effects reported with this medicine include: cough, headache, dizziness, fatigue
Precautions:
Precautions while taking this medicine include the possibility of increased potassium levels (about 1% of patients), and photosensitivity (wear protective clothing or use sunscreens until tolerance is determined).
Preganant:
Ramipril should NOT be used during pregnancy due to the possibility of fetal damage. Also, ramipril has been detected in breast milk, so it should NOT be used while breast-feeding.

Dosage InformationThis medicine is taken orally and can be taken with or without food. Take this medicine regularly about the same time every day. Do not stop taking this medicine without first talking to your doctor.
Missed Dosage:
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
