Drug Information

This medicine is used for patient's who have Paget's disease, osteoporosis, or other conditions where a patient is at risk for bone loss.
Mechanism:
Risedronate works by reducing calcium loss from bones. Calcium is essential for strong bones.

Side Effects

This medicine can cause some side effects. Side effects reported include: black or tarry stools, eye pain or vision changes, low calcium levels (may cause weakness, fatigue or confusion), difficulty swallowing, skin rash, itching, stomach pain, swelling of the lips, face, tongue or throat.
Precautions:
Before taking this medicine tell your doctor if you have any of the following conditions; allergy to risedronate or other medicines, kidney disease, stomach problems, vitamin D deficiency, pregnant, breast-feeding.
Preganant:
Talk to your doctor if you plan to become pregnant. You and your doctor can discuss any risks of using this medicine during your pregnancy. It is not know whether or not this medicine is excreted in human breast milk. Before breast-feeding, talk to your doctor or pediatrician.

Dosage Information

Follow the directions that your doctor has given you. This medicine must be taken every day in order for it to work properly. Take this medicine about the same time every day. Swallow the tablet whole. DO NOT break or crush or chew before swallowing. Take this medicine with 6-8 ounces of plain water only the first thing in the morning. Wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking, or taking any other medicines or vitamins. This medicine works only if taken on an empty stomach. DO NOT lie down for at least 30 minutes after taking this medicine.
Missed Dosage:
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
