Drug InformationThis medicine is an anticonvulsant used with other medicines to control certain types of seizures.
Mechanism:
This medicine calms the impulses along the nerves in the brain and central nervous system which reduces seizures. (Raises the threshold).

Side EffectsSide effects that may occur while taking this medicine include: drowsiness, constipation, loss of coordination, numbness and tingling, tremor, change in speech, decreased sweating, or loss of concentration. If they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor.
Precautions:
Do NOT abruptly stop this medicine without talking to your doctor.
Preganant:
Taking this medicine while you are using birth control pills may decrease the effectiveness of your birth control pills. To prevent pregnancy, use an additional form of birth control while you are taking this medicine. If you plan on becoming pregnant, discuss with your doctor the benefits and risks of using this medicine during pregnancy. It is unknown if this medicine is excreted in breast milk. If your are or will be breast-feeding while you are taking this medicine, check with your doctor or pharmacist to discuss the risks to your baby.

Dosage InformationFollow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Swallow whole. Do not break, crush, or chew before swallowing. This medicine may be taken on an empty stomach or with food. Drink plenty of fluids while you are taking this medicine is recommended.
Missed Dosage:
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
