Drug Information

This drug is used to relieve pain and stiffness caused by arthritis and for painful menstrual cramping. Your doctor may prescribe valdecoxib for other conditions as well.
Mechanism:
This medicine works by blocking an enzyme in your body called prostaglandins. Reducing prostaglandins helps to reduce pain and swelling.

Side Effects

The most common side effects with this medicine are: headache, abdominal pain, indigestion, upper respiratory infection, nausea, diarrhea
Precautions:
Let your doctor know if you have kidney or liver problems.
Preganant:
This medicine should not be taken in late pregnancy. If you plan on nursing with valdecoxib, talk to your doctor first.

Dosage Information

For using this medicine, follow the directions given to you by your doctor or pharmacist. This medicine can be taken with food or on an empty stomach. Valdecoxib is taken orally once daily and should be taken about the same time each day.
Missed Dosage:
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center.
