Drug InformationThis medicine is used to treat high blood pressure, either alone or taken together with other medications. This medicine controls high blood pressure, but does not cure it. This medication may be prescribed for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Mechanism:
This medication reduces blood pressure by blocking the effects of a chemical that tightens blood vessels, so blood flows more smoothly through the vessels.

Side EffectsAlthough side effects from this medicine are not common, the following side effects have been reported: headache, dizziness, cough, fatigue, upset stomach, diarrhea
Precautions:
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to irbesartan, candesartan, telmisartan, eprosartan, or any other drugs.
Preganant:
This drug is NOT recommended for use during pregnancy, and should be discontinued as soon as possible when pregnancy is detected. It is unknown whether irbesartan is excreted in breast milk, so caution should be used in deciding whether to discontinue the drug or the breast-feeding.

Dosage InformationTake this medicine exactly as directed. This medicine is taken by mouth and usually once per day. Valsartan can be taken with or without food and should be taken about the same time every day.
Missed Dosage:
Take your next dose as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double doses.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.
Overdose:
Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
