Drug InformationThis medication is use for short-term treatment of insomnia, or difficulty falling asleep.
Mechanism:
Zaleplon works with a natural chemical called GABA. GABA dampens the electrical activity of neighboring brain cells which causes you to relax and sleep.

Precautions:
This medicine should be used with caution in elderly patients due to the chance of falls.
Preganant:
For women, there is no evidence that is unsafe to use during pregnancy, however, it should NOT be used if you are nursing. As with other medications, if you suspect that you may be pregnant, talk to you physician or pharmacist before using this medication.

Dosage InformationGenerally, the usual adult dose is 5 to10 mg taken orally before bed and should be limited to 7 to 10 days. Doses are generally lower in elderly people.
Missed Dosage:
Follow dosing instructions. This medicine is used when needed and not taken on a regular basis.
Storage:
Keep this medication in the container it came in, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Store it at room temperature and away from excess heat and moisture (not in the bathroom). Throw away any medication that is outdated or no longer needed.

Seek medical attention immediately. For non emergencies, contact your local or regional poison control center at 1-800-222-1222.
